fall sewing patterns 2023
Fall is the best time of year for a crafter, in my humble opinion. As days get shorter and colder, you spend more time inside, working on your favorite craft projects.
Here’s a compilation of my favorite sewing projects for fall. Some of them I’ve already sewn, and others are still on my list. There are sweater dress sewing patterns, sewing patterns for fall layers, and even out-of-the-box tutorials like the patchwork t-shirt sewing tutorial.
Tops
1. Ilford Jacket - Friday Pattern Company
difficulty: confident beginner
The Ilford Jacket is a great introduction into sewing more structured garments. It comes with two body options and two sleeve options, making it the perfect customizable chore jacket sewing pattern. I used the Ilford Jacket pattern to make a quilt jacket last year, and I intend on making at least one more quilt jacket this fall.
2. Anthea blouse - Anna Allen Clothing
difficulty: intermediate
The Anthea Blouse is such a cute peasant blouse option. I love the idea of pairing it with a structured jean, playing with a masculine/feminine aesthetic. Peasant blouses look so cute under sweaters and sweater vests, making them a wardrobe staple for fall.

3. Patchwork Graphic Tees - tutorial by garbie on tiktok
difficulty: confident beginner
This idea for patchwork graphic tees from thrifted t-shirts is incredible. I can’t wait to pick out some fall colored shirts and make a patchwork tee or even t-shirt dress.
Pants
4. Zero Waste Block Pant - Birgitta Helmersson
difficulty: confident beginner
I am just OBSESSED with the Zero Waste Block Pant pattern! I love the ultra wide leg (maybe you can sense a trend) and I think this lavender color is so cute.
5. Sonya Ruffle Skirt - DIY Daisy
difficulty: beginner
The Sonya Ruffle Skirt is an ultimate beginner’s sewing pattern. I’ve personally sewn two Sonya Ruffle Skirts already, with plans this fall to make a third. It is so versatile, and can be made at any length.
6. Helene Selvedge Jeans - Anna Allen Clothing
difficulty: intermediate/advanced
The Helene Selvedge Jeans look like the perfect pair of jeans. Fall is the best time to start more challenging projects, and the Helene Jeans look like the perfect challenge. Anna Allen is great about making pants patterns that are very flattering, and from the looks of it, the Helene Jeans are no different. I love that there’s a couple different leg and fly options, making these jeans completely customizable.

7. Sati Skirt - Viki Sews
difficulty: confident beginner
Bias-cut skirts have been so popular recently, and I don’t think they’re going anywhere this fall. The best thing about sewing is that you’re able to use luxe and expensive fabrics without paying the brand premium for such fabrics. So you can actually make a silk bias skirt for under $100.
8. Pomona Pants - Anna Allen Clothing
difficulty: confident beginner
I'm in love with these pants by Sonderhaus, and I think the Pomona Pants would be the perfect pattern to make my own replica of them. I’m thinking in either a blue or red gingham, but I also saw a dark green stripe recently that caught my eye.

9. Zero Waste Gather Dress - Birgitta Helmersson
difficulty: confident beginner
The Zero Waste Gather Dress in a warm flannel would be such a cozy dress for fall. Paired with some warm tights and boots, I can’t think of a better fall outfit. It would feel like a secret nightdress.

10. Riley Overalls - True Bias
difficulty: intermediate
There’s something about this cream-colored pair of Riley Overalls that I just love. Overalls are something I wear year-round, but especially in the fall and winter. They are just so easy to slide on on chilly mornings.

11. Tate romper - jessilous closet and small museum collab
difficulty: confident beginner
The Tate Romper has been all over TikTok and Instagram, and for good reason; it’s fabulous. It has ultra wide legs and looks like the perfect transitional piece from summer to fall. For cooler nights, you can pair it with a long sleeve shirt underneath, or a cute cardigan on top.
12. Nikko Top and Dress - True Bias
difficulty: confident beginner
The Nikko Top is an amazing intro to sewing with knit fabrics. I’ve made three Nikko Tops in the past and loved them all, so I’m excited to tackle the Nikko Dress. I think it will be the perfect warm and cozy dress for fall.
Bonus Accessory
Crosstown Crescent Bag by gracomakes
difficulty: intermediate
I’ve seen the Crosstown Crescent Bag all over TikTok, and I think it would be so fun to attempt sewing a bag this fall. Maybe I’ll make a quilt bag to match my Ilford Jacket?
